Helen Kroger, Liberal Senator for Victoria

Committee Work Overview

Committee work is a critical part of the Senate process, not only in reviewing proposed legislation, but also in identifying and highlighting the endemic failures of this government. Committee inquiries are conducted across the nation, and demand significant time and work from participating Senators.

I have been a member of the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee since I was sworn in to the Senate in July 2008. I chaired this committee and was a member of the Finance and Public Administration Committee until my election was Chief Opposition Whip in the Senate in July 2011.

From 2010 until September 2012, I was a member of the Joint Statutory Committee on Public Accounts and Audit and am currently a member of the Senate Standing Committees on Procedure, Senators' Interests and Selection of Bills. I also participate in the work of the Parliamentary Education Office (PEO), which provides education services to students, teachers and schools.
